“If you look at the reaction of the share price to the news that Wirecard has allegedly overstated its cash by 1.9 billion euros, it is clear that German investors were obviously shocked by this news. They shouldn’t have been – there have been indications since 2008 that something is wrong with Wirecard.
How could the company get away with it for so long? The reason is not that the alleged fraudsters were so sophisticated. Rather, it is a very different actor who has strayed from the path, and whose behaviour has ensured that the fraud and losses of investors could reach such proportions in the first place. There are many indications of this, which only allow a conclusion to be concluded.
